It’s been a hot minute since I shared a look at my week in outfits. And TBH, you didn’t really miss much. The same denim shorts and t-shirts were generally on rotation during my two-week stint of battling influenza, and my outfits have followed a formulaic trope ever since. Effortless dressing that’s driven by wearing like-for-like outfits. Oh, and a lot of black. Don’t let Monday’s outfit fool you.
And a lot of this comes down to circumstance. Where we are in our current season of life. I’ve been working from home a lot, and when the kids aren’t at daycare, I’m mindful that what I’m wearing is the right mix of feeling comfortable, feeling like it’s in my style wheelhouse, and is also practical for the day’s activities ahead. Basically, if it’s white, I’m lucky to last an hour grubby finger free.
MONDAY
I wore: Depound white shirt, Everlane denim shorts, Andersons belt, Margaux ballet flats, Rue D’uegenie quilted bag
I dissected the concept of colour theory a few month’s ago (paid), where I posited the thought that perhaps what we want to do when wearing colour is communicate something specific. A big thing for me has been around how I want to soften the contrast in my outfits, or at least consider how I’m including them in an outfit. Red was one of the big colour trends of 2023, which I was thrilled to see as it’s one of my personal happy colours. I have a few “louder” red pieces but don’t reach for them often for this very reason. Using accessories is an easy way to add in that vibrancy without overtaking the rest of your outfit.
TUESDAY
I wore: Onte knitted vest, Quince silk slip skirt, JIL SANDER sandals, Rue D’ugenie bag
Back in my all black outfit era. Key is wearing pieces that feel elevated and chic, but are actually easy to care for. The vest is a cotton knit, and the skirt a washable skirt, both of which come out of the wash looking like new. I’ve been starting to wonder whether my fruitless search for the perfect black sandal is unwarranted as I have these strappy caged sandals which essentially serve the same purpose. They’re a deep wine/burgundy, barely there, comfortable on the foot and don’t bother me if I’m doing a fair amount of walking. The pointed toe of this style feels quite elevated, and serves to bring up the rest of this fairly “done up” outfit. Mix of textures doing all the work in helping me keep monochrome feeling interesting.
WEDNESDAY
I wore: Tibi cotton tank, SIR the Label shorts, Andersons belt, Raey sleeveless blazer, Pamela Card earrings (10% off with JAMIELEE10), Monorow bag, YSL slides
Summer outfits have a tendency to feel a little lacking. Especially if you live somewhere hot. I won’t deny that the urge to just wear a singlet and denim shorts every single day that I can is strong. Though it doesn’t exactly fulfil my need for expression nor does it feel particularly stylish or “styled”. So when I was putting this outfit on - 30 deg C day - and peering through my closet to see if I could find a way to make it feel more interesting beyond the pieces I was wearing, I remembered this sleeveless blazer I bought from the MATCHES sale a while back now. Oversized, it exudes chill, and I love the chewed up sleeves. A playful touch. It also comes with a belt to cinch at the waist but I like it worn open as I’d do with an oversized blazer. I’ll often avoid layering on hot days because you can quickly feel sticky, suffocated and overheated. But this helps me bypass all that while adding in that touch of style and balance to the outfit.
A little reminder that the remainder of this week’s outfits will be available to paid subscribers only - if you want to continue reading or want to support my work then you may like to consider upgrading your subscription. If not, I’ll see you in the next one. You’ll continue to get a preview of my first 3 outfits from my style diaries.
