We’re starting to get into that muggy, sticky, hot time of year, when the very act of dressing feels like a chore. Suspect that this will be when my tailored shorts really start to come into their own. Anyway, how was your week? I feel like I’ve been a bit of a busy bee, buzzing in and out of your inbox. Which, I hope was helpful for those of you who did plan to shop the sales this week/end. But we’re back to regular programming, capping off a lazy Sunday with my week in outfits.
MONDAY
I was wearing: Grana silk cami, Kowtow sailor jeans, About Arianne ballet flats, Demaker bag, Linjer pearl earrings, Mejuri diamond necklace, Gingiberi pendant, Mejuri heirloom ring
Maiden outing for the Kowtow jeans I recently purchased, which I paired rather simply with a black silk camisole, and heeled ballerinas. The sailor jeans (one of their most iconic styles) has quite a dramatic, wide cut through the leg, so I wanted that to be the hero of the look. On sizing, as I did get a few questions… I find that Kowtow on the whole tends to be generously cut. I’m a jean size 26 and have these in the XS. They were a pretty snug fit in the store, but after a day of breaking them in they’ve loosened up a little across the hip and I have a touch of breathing room at the waist. Balancing out the proportions of the jeans with an oversized shoulder bag, and bookending the outfit with like-for-like colours; an easy way to look put together and chic.
TUESDAY
I was wearing: Marle l/s top (old but similar current style linked), Everlane denim shorts, Isabel Marant belt, VIVAIA Mary janes, Demaker bag
Did a little mummy/daughter date on this semi-rainy/muggy day, and wanted an outfit that felt easy-going but also put together. Darker colours tend to have this layer of formality to them so often form a starting point for me. The top is in a cotton poplin, so it’s got a soft structure to it, while still feeling easy and effortless to wear. The pointed toe Mary janes help to elongate, and being more of a preppy shoe style, give the outfit a refined feel. A belt cinches the waist, but also, it’s simple accessories like this that can make a world of difference. Despite being a no brainer as these shorts run a little large on me, it gives the appearance that I’ve put in effort. Even if I truly haven’t. Jewellery can act much in the same way - can actually be helpful to have a singular jewellery capsule you can lean on for your outfits!
WEDNESDAY
I was wearing: DISSH padded shoulder tank, JAG denim shorts
You know when you wake up in the morning, and you just feel kind of… off? That was me on Wednesday. An icky, queasy tummy which quickly turned into a bout of food poisoning. I spent most of the day bouncing between having low energy curled up in bed, and trying to complete most of my work commitments for the day. Suffice to say, what I was wearing wasn’t a huge consideration. The one thing I did do though, was make a point of reaching for lighter neutrals. I’ve found myself shying away from these of late as frankly, they’re just too risky to wear when you have two pairs of sticky fingers grabbing at you throughout the day (a blessing, of course - but messy). I feel like at this point, it’s a bit of a running joke how often I wear black. In some ways, it feels like a return to my core style from my years spent growing up in Wellington. I quite like the easy nature of this outfit, and the way that the padded shoulders add in some visual balance by adding some width/structure around my face. If memory serves me I ended up wearing this with my day ballet flats, which tied in with the tan contrast stitching of the shorts.
A little reminder that the remainder of this week’s outfits will be available to paid subscribers only - if you want to continue reading or want to support my work then you may like to consider upgrading your subscription. If not, I’ll see you in the next one. You’ll continue to get a preview of my first 3 outfits each week. Love you!
