You didn't find your personal style, you're just "on-trend"

Always one to play devil’s advocate, I have what I think will be a wildly unpopular hot take…

If you’ve stumbled across the “Before I found my Personal Style” trend on TikTok, you may have an inkling about what I’m referring to. The glow up from millennial minimalism to the modern equivalent of “quiet luxury”, or Scandi maximalism at the other end of the spectrum (think colour, prints and patterns, coquettish bows etc).

And obviously I’m generalising here for the sake of critical analysis; this is absolutely no shade on anyone (read this with a grain of salt, okay?). Influences come from everywhere, and I’ve been curious whether it’s possible that these large shifts in taste and “personal style” are really just a reflection of the changing nature of trends.
